DOSSIER ROBERT CAPA: ¿POR QUIÉN DOBLAN LAS CAMPANAS?

Tras conocer a Ernest Hemingway en Madrid en marzo de 1937, Capa 'lo adoptó como padre'. El novelista estaba trabajando en un film titulado The Spanish Earth sobre la guerra civil. Le impresionaron mucho las fotos de Capa y basó la descripción de los hechos de su novela Por Quién Doblan Las Campanas en la cobertura de Capa de la fallida ofensiva republicana en el paso de Navacerrada, cerca de Segovia, en mayo de 1937. Volvieron a encontrarse en Valencia en diciembre de ese mismo año, entre escapadas para cubrir la batalla de Teruel. A finales de 1938, Capa pasó una temporada en Barcelona con Hemingway y su novia, Martha Gellhorn, que también era periodista. Gellhorn se quedó cuando Hemingway regresó a su país, y ella y Capa se hicieron buenos amigos.
